How Do You Know?
- If you're requesting bids for your painting project from a legitimate painting contractor?
- Are dealing with a licensed and insured business?
- If you can trust your home or business with who you contract with?
- If they have employees or just sub-contracted labor - who, by State and Federal laws
cannot be managed like employees, supervised or directed like employees?
- If your painting contractor or painter really provides quality work and great value?

1st - Use the following Easy-to-Use Links to get answers quickly to these important questions!
- Check the Denver PDCA's Membership Database to verify PDCA Membership

- Check the Denver BBB's Search Engine to verify BBB Membership

- State of Colorado Business Center - Verify the Business - is 'in' business
Your painting contractor or painter should appear in all three of the databases.
2nd - Insurance Protects You and Your Assets - Make Sure the Business is Insured!
Request a current Insurance Certificate and Verify the Insurance Certificate has the following element:
- Check the Policies Effective Dates and Expiration Dates.
All insurance must be active during the time period that work will be performed and completed.
- Locate both Workers Compensation Insurance and General Liability Insurance on the certificate.
Workers Compensation Insurance is good proof that the company has employees rather than just subs.
General Liability Insurance protects your property and people - you, your family, or your employees.
Don't get stuck hoping your insurance protects you against lawsuits. The business you contract with should be insured.
3rd - References are Important!
Always get at least three references from previous clients who have had similar work contracted and completed.
Ask the reference how they came to 'contract'
with the painting contractor.
