Take some time and look over the ten (10) things Gilmore Painting uses to screen potential employees:

1. Ability to do the Job ( Physically – Mentally – Emotionally). Painting is a physically demanding occupation. The job description requires you move in a fluid motion, planning ahead and taking into account your surroundings. You have to think! Think Safety! Attitude is everything – you have to love what you do and do it well.

2. Initiative - Demonstrate how quickly you recognize a problem, start the corrective action, and produce results.

3. Job Growth - As we explained in the “Opportunity” section, we look for people who go beyond their defined "job description." Show us you’re adaptive and willing to take on additional responsibility and you will achieve success.

4. Self-Confidence - This has to do with trust, not just ego. We want to know that we can totally put our trust in you to perform the job and produce the desired results. We develop this trust by observing your confidence. Confidence in your speak, appearance, cooperation, people skills, knowledge and consistency.

5. Leadership - Leadership is not reserved for management alone. Painter’s can show leadership by observing the rules, telling someone when there is something they feel is unsafe, and being open-minded to efficient ways of cutting costs through operational methods or minimizing waste. Show us that you have the courage to take a leadership role, regardless of your level or function.

6. Compatibility - GP&D seeks people whose personality type and behavior match the requirements of the job, the marketplace and the corporate culture

7. Attitude - Always demonstrate your positive mental attitude (PMA). We want you to be the standard by which others are measured. Walk in the door with a high energy level, tons of enthusiasm, a zest for living, and the determination to be the very best at whatever you do.

8. Social Skills/Interests/Involvement - You can never say “please” and “thank you” enough. People around you deserve respect, recognition, and dedication.

9. Integrity - Demonstrate your honesty, professional and personal morals.

10. Communication Skills - We can't ever communicate valued information enough. What is valued information? It is information relating to your part of the project, or how your personal life is going to affect your attendance, and keep your eyes open for safety issue. Simply focus on what the employer / fellow workers wants / needs to know. This one thing will save your job, an annoyance, and even a life.
